CHAPTER 1

August rolled in and with-it Mom moved in with Pauly. Pauly was my biological father and he and Mom had been separated for years but still loved each other, they had been reunited when I landed in the hospital months ago. They practically lived together by now anyways. She was either at his house or he was at ours. I had never seen Mom so happy.

Sarah Bristow had become a wonderful friend and she had been extremely generous with the check that she gave me for finding Emily and the necklace. Between her check and Pauly’s I was able to grow my portfolio and it was making me some nice returns. Moms house was paid off, so I only had a few small monthly bills coming in. I was in an enviable situation.

I had my tooth fixed and Logan and Rumor were going strong. Rumor, Lori and I had become close friends and hung out together as often as possible. Rhys and I had run into each other occasionally at the Split Bean. I really missed him, and the ironic thing was that I had stayed out of trouble for months. Rhys was my ex-boyfriend, he broke up with me because I was always putting my life in danger and he had lost his first girlfriend to a car accident, he didn’t want to lose someone else he loved. I got that but it still hurt.

I was just coming back from Arizona where I had visited with my newly found grandparents otherwise known as Mom Mom and Pop. They were great. I only got food poisoning once. Pauly said I got lucky it was only once. Pop had a pretty cool history that I was surprised he was so open about it with me.

Pop was married at eighteen and divorced at nineteen. Brokenhearted he joined the Army and worked his way up to Master Sargent when he got into some trouble that he couldn’t afford to get out of and went to his old friend Willie ‘The Nose’ Jackson, he was the guy to know back in the day. Had his finger on the pulse of the neighborhood. If something went on ‘The Nose’ knew about it. So, when Pop had gone to him for help, a deal was struck.

Pop would work as an Associate in the mob. When he was able, he retired from the service and went full time with ‘the nose’ After the empire was built in Las Vegas the only person “The Nose’ trusted was his childhood friend Pop. So, he made him the Boss, El Hefei. Pop answered only to “The Nose” the Godfather. When Pop was ready to leave Vegas with his wife and young son, he moved them to Rosewood, a place prime for taking over. Rosewood is where I live.

A team was set up and the establishment began. Pauly, as the oldest, took over for Pop and two of Pauly’s sisters married and moved away from Rosewood, one brother moved away and two of Pauly’s brothers still lived in town.
